I really need this right now. Spiritually it has been a difficult time for me as a Buddhist. I live my life as a pagan, a witch in all my daily dealings but my religion – my true spirit belong to Buddhism and is embodied by the Goddess Green Tara.

I need her more than ever right now. I need her guidance.

I say her mantra 108 times and it does not seem to be enough for I need to be saying it 108 times by 10,000 times.

Here is a beautiful rendition of the mantra set to music and sung by Chinese artist Su Ching-yen.

In Tibetan “Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha”
In Sanskrit “Oṃ Tāre Tuttāre Ture Svāhā”

Tibetan culture, and some others, green is considered to include all the other colors.

The practice of Green Tara helps to overcome fear and anxiety, but devotees also believe that she can grant wishes, eliminate suffering of all kinds and bring happiness.

When called upon, she instantaneously saves us from eight specific calamities. The First Dalai Lama lists the 8, and interprets them as representative of corresponding defects, flaws, or obscurations:

lions and pride

wild elephants and delusions

forest fires and hatred

snakes and envy

robbers and fanatical views

prisons and avarice

floods and lust

demons and doubt

OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA

OM represents Tara’s sacred body, speech and mind.

TARE means liberating from all discontent.

TUTTARE means liberating from the eight fears, the external dangers, but mainly from the internal dangers, the delusions.

TURE means liberating from duality; it shows the true cessation of confusion.

SOHA means “may the meaning of the mantra take root in my mind.”

According to Tibetan Buddhism’s beliefs, this mantra can not only eliminate diseases, troubles, disasters and karma, but will also bring believers blessings, longer life and even the wisdom to transcend one’s circle of reincarnation.

This is about the world coming to life again and you will need to celebrate nature in some fashion. Take a long walk in the woods if you are able or at the very least (like I do) relax on the back porch with a friend (Lucy especially likes this – ha!) and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature surrounding you.

Buy flowers. If you are feeling especially inspired make a chaplet (wreath of flowers to wear) or a flower chain.

Have a feast – bread, cheese and fruit are traditional Beltane foods, so bake a fruit pie or include raisin bread and sweet cheese in your meal. These are foods of abundance. I love to bake bread for this sabbat. I usually make a traditional Scottish Meat pie (meat pasty) for the feast.

Make love. You don’t have to frolic in the forest certainly (but why not?) to celebrate this time of fertility and passion. Approach this time and connection with your desired one with wild abandon!

Beating the bounds. This custom involves walking around the boundaries of one’s property to invoke protection. In some places, the entire community would walk the boundaries of their village, proceeding deosil (clockwise) around the boundary. This would be an excellent time to walk around your house, yard, apartment building, or just your personal space. You can speak, chant, sing or silently appeal for protection.

Petitions for good health. Take ribbons or fabric strips and write requests for healing, then tie them to a tree. Hawthorn, Ash, Thorn and Sycamore are the magickal trees of Beltane, but any tree or shrub will do.

May Day morning dew. Long ago, young women would rise very early on May Day and collect the dew from leaves and grass. Washing their faces with dew, perhaps rolling in the dewy grass, was believed to make them beautiful, thereby becoming more attractive to the young fellows. It would be a sweet thing to walk through the morning dew, thinking about the beauty of the day and the love of your life.

Build a fire outside. Now is the time to put that fire-pit to use, likely for the last time before the Autumn. Burn some sacred sage or thyme in the fire.

Do something creative. I have often used the afternoon on Beltane to craft sacred oils, dry herbs or even craft beaded jewelry. Make use of this powerful energy by putting your mind toward artistic pursuits.

Drink mead. To me, any time of celebration is a good time for mead but today especially since the honey-wine is perfect for such spring festivities!

Give love to the Earth Mother and the Green Man. Or to whomever and whatever your Higher Power is.

This bears repeating because it is every single day I get an inquiry or email that mentions this. People ask me if their spell will backfire or they insinuate that it might backfire or manifest opposite of what they desire. I have written about it before but I think I need to make it clear to all that only cars backfire not spells!

When you make a request to the Goddess (Universe) using magick (or prayer, ritual etc.) there is no secret Goddess evil twin who intercepts said request and says, haha I will turn your request on its ear and make the exact opposite happen! Considering the effort and focused will and intention put into a spell, the only two possibilities are that the spell will either manifest as you desire and intend or it will not manifest as you desire and intend.

Sometimes it might partially manifest – perhaps you are hoping to get back with your boyfriend. He has’t contacted you in a month. The spell opens the lines of communication between you. So you are now talking again. This gives you the opportunity to work things out. But you are thinking, he’s not rushing back to me so my spell did not manifest according to my desires. The spell will manifest according to what the Goddess (Universe) decides is best for you ultimately. Thus the spell has manifested but not precisely according to your timetable and the way you saw it in your mind. That is why when you have a spell cast you must always be open to what the Universe will offer you.

To me this spell has been realized – any manifestation is manifestation and is good.

If for some reason a spell does not manifest, this is not through a fault in the spell. Spells work as they are supposed to work, only we do not always know what is best or right for us. Our desires are not always commensurate with our best interests.

I have been casting spells for a long time and have cast thousands upon thousands of them. They do not backfire. Situations may not work in the way we desire them to but the spell will not cause this condition. The spell will only cause what the intention is or it will cause nothing at all. That is the way of magick.

This is not science. It is art. Keep that in mind.

Many people come to me after they have been scammed by fake spellcasters on the internet. I have addressed this in several postings but wanted to make a cohesive list for you all so you can check on a potential caster you find on the internet against this criteria.

Psychics do NOT cast spells. If you find someone claiming to be a psychic AND a spellcaster – they are a sham.

Real psychics are extremely rare. Take anyone claiming to have psychic abilities with a grain of salt.

Tarot reading is NOT the same as psychic abilities. That is an “art” and “craft” as opposed to innate “ability”.

A real witch does not hide information from her clients. You can find her real name. You can find her address.

A real witch has many photos of herself, her altars, witchy things, her life in general. If you go to a website where there are no REAL photos (and not just one photo of a person that is probably a stock photo or stolen from somewhere) of the witch, this is not a site or person to be trusted.

A real witch knows that there are no guarantees and thus will not offer them. Spells are not science. There are too many variables.

A real witch does not offer spells to change hair color, eye color, make you taller, bigger body parts etc. Science takes care of these things, spells do not.

A real witch cannot turn you into a vampire, mermaid, werewolf or other mystical mythological creature. OR from a boy into a girl.

A real witch knows magick takes time, they will not offer you instant or fast-acting spells.

A real witch will work alone, it is rare for a coven or group of witches to get involved casting spells. In fact that would just not happen in an online spellcasting situation. It would be too difficult to coordinate.

A real witch will handle ALL the communication with you from start to finish.

A real witch will be Paypal verified. There are some scam operations that are also verified so beware that they meet all other conditions.

A real witch will have a “presence” on the Internet – a long running blog, Twitter, Facebook – and not just phony accounts, where there is no activity. My clients are my Facebook friends. My blog has been online for years. I am always able to be accessed by my clients through email, Facebook, Twitter and my blog.

If you have questions about a so-called spellcaster - please email me. If you find a legitimate REAL witch (even if it is not me) I will be happy that you get the help you need.

A client of mind just reminded me that this summer (August 31st) the occasion of the Blue Moon will be upon us. Wow, it kind sneaks up on you sometimes! The last casting I had for my Blue Moon Wish Spell was two years ago!

So I thought I might entertain you with a little Blue Moon lore since my client brought it up and I have always adored the celebration of the Blue Moon.

What is a Blue Moon?

There are in fact two definitions for a blue moon. According to the more recent definition, a blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. For a blue moon to occur, the first of the full moons must appear at or near the beginning of the month so that the second will fall within the same month (the average span between two moons is 29.5 days).

The Other Kind of Blue Moon

The older definition, which is recorded in early issues of the Maine Farmer’s Almanac, states that the blue moon is the third full moon in a season that has four full moons. The full Moon on Nov. 21, 2010, was this type of blue moon; it was the third of four full moons between the fall equinox and the winter solstice. Why would one want to identify the third full moon in a season of four full moons? The answer is complex, and has to do with the Christian ecclesiastical calendar.

Some years have an extra full moon—13 instead of 12. Since the identity of the moons was important in the ecclesiastical calendar (the Paschal Moon, for example, used to be crucial for determining the date of Easter), a year with a 13th moon skewed the calendar, since there were names for only 12 moons. By identifying the extra, 13th moon as a blue moon, the ecclesiastical calendar was able to stay on track.

How Often Does a Blue Moon Occur?

Over the next 20 years there will be about 15 blue moons, with an almost equal number of both types of blue moons occurring. No blue moon of any kind will occur in the years 2011, 2014, and 2017.

The more recent phenomenon, where the blue moon is considered to be the second full moon in a calendar month, last occurred on December 31, 2009. Two full moons in one month may occur in any month out of the year except for February, which is shorter than the lunar cycle.

The other, older blue moon event, which happens when there are four full moons in a season, last occurred in May 2008 and will again on Nov. 21, 2010. Since this type of blue moon is reckoned according to the seasons, it can only occur in February, May, August, or November, about a month before the equinox or the solstice.

Twice in a Blue Moon

The rare phenomenon of two blue moons (using the more recent definition) occurring in the same year happens approximately once every 19 years. 1999 was the last time a blue moon appeared twice, in January and March.

The months of the double blue moons are almost always January and March. That is because the short month that falls in between them, February, is a key ingredient in this once-every-19-year phenomenon. For January and March to each have two full moons, it’s necessary for February to have none at all. Since February is usually 28 days long, and the average span between full moons is 29.5 days, if a full moon occurs at the end of January, it’s possible for the next full moon to skip February entirely and fall in the beginning of March.

Yeah baby yeah! Got to get your mojo back? Well that is what I’ve got working this month with my new spell Making Mojo. This is the spell to use to increase your attractiveness to whom ever you what to attract for your lusty purposes. This spell isn;t really about love but more about making the sexy times count and be more frequent and fun. I thought since April is all about taxes that all of could use a little sex escape and mojo is all about that!

So what is mojo exactly?

It happens sometimes that a spell will not manifest in the way that you hope or plan on. It may be that it happens differently or not at all and this causes some frustration. There are several important things to consider if your spell is not manifesting the way you expected or hoped.

Make sure you give it enough time. If you are ready to throw in the towel after only a few weeks, you are not giving the magick enough time to work. Depending upon your situation, magick works at its own pace. You must give it time. Something may not have come together in the time-frame you expected but then a couple of week or perhaps a month later it does and you’ll think – oh, there it is. I always tell my clients to give any spell at least 3 months.

Consider the obstacles that you are addressing within the working. You can cast a spell for prosperity but if you are unemployed you will need to be working toward remedying that. The spell will not deposit money in your bank account for nothing. Spells need you to be pro-active with what you can and will do to help yourself. If a spell is cast that involves the free will of another person you need to accept that there is a “unknown” in the spell, because you cannot know (or plan on) how a person with free will is going to react to a spell or working, or even what their own personal obstacles might be in coming together with you. This is why it is best that if you are casting spells for love that you have confidence that the other person truly has feelings for you (or could if motivated appropriately) because that gives the spell the right energy to work with.

Know thyself. This is important too because you might be going after something (or someone) that truly isn’t right or good for you and since spells are esoteric (not scientific) they work with universal energy and power that wants to take care of you and your place in the cosmos. Think of magick as always ultimately doing the “right thing” for you, no matter if you think that is what you want or need. When I cast a spell for you I will direct toward your goals and desires and you will use your focused will and intention to create that end, however the Universe plays a part in guiding you toward what it knows will be right and good for you. Keep this in mind. You have no idea how many spells I have cast for clients who thought they wanted something specific but it turned out the Universe gave them something different and they come back to tell me that ultimately the Universe knew better than they did what was right for them. In this sense often a spell can lead you to a new possibility that you never even thought of.

Keep an open mind. Because spells can and will manifest sometimes in unexpected ways you must keep yourself open to whatever happens. Because it is not science there is no way to plan on what your particular manifestation and results will be. I can cast the same spell for ten different people and get ten different results. You are unique and your situations and concerns are too. Keep yourself open to possibilities that could actually be better than anything you ever dreamed.

Sometimes it is all about timing. You may love someone but they are not open to love at the same time as you. It may be that there needs to be some time to change the situation, along with the right spell. Situations that go back and forth where you see manifestation and movement but then suddenly it seems to go backwards a bit is dependent upon the unknown. It might take a different spell or simply just a little time for the spell to connect. Be open to using readings to find the right time to cast a spell.

I work with my clients until they are satisfied and do everything within my power to help when spells are not manifesting in the way they hoped for or expected. Most clients find their spells manifest within a certain time-frame and have the manifestation they are looking for. In rare cases I will even cast additional spells if needed and do readings and rituals to help clients who run into issues with manifestation. As long as they remain open and willing, no working is abandoned.

Know when to let go. This is mostly in the case of love spells, since other spells usually are cast on the client and not another person. Even if a spell manifests somewhat they way you hoped but for some reason you are still not getting exactly what you want, learn to let go of what you desire and be open to something else. It does not mean letting that person go necessarily (though sometimes this might be the best thing for you) but it means change your perspective on the situation and adjust your thinking about things to get better results.

By all means if a spell is NOT manifesting do not wait a year to tell me this! Sometimes I will get an email from an old client a year or two later and they will tell me that their spell didn’t work out they way they had hoped. The energy at that point has well dissipated (unless its a long-acting spell) and I would need to begin again. Understand that in magick we have a sympathetic relationship – you help me to help you.

Ask questions! That’s what I am here for, to help you get the best possible results from your spells. We can make magick together!

Here are some interesting facts about Leap Year (which is today!)

Despite what our elementary teachers told us, a year isn’t really 365 days. Our planet actually takes 365 1/4 days to revolve around the sun. These six additional hours each year add up to an extra 24 hours over four years, at which point we add a day to our calendar in order to keep us in sync with the sun. Without leap day, annual events would slowly shift seasons—eventually, we’d be celebrating Christmas in July.

While the first leap day was likely observed by the Egyptians, Caesar is credited for incorporating a leap year into the Julian calendar in 46 B.C. However, scientists noticed that annual events were still shifting over extended periods of time. While the calculation of 365 1/4 days for the Earth to lap the sun was close, the true figure is actually about 11 minutes short of that, and this tiny miscalculation caused a day of discrepancy every 128 years. Pope Gregory XIII came to the rescue in 1582, ruling that leap year would be skipped three times every four centuries to fix the snag.

Though the point of a leap day is to keep our calendar aligned with nature, hundreds of years ago people thought that messing with our months would throw Mother Nature for a loop. Farmers worried that the change would lower crop yields and sicken livestock. In fact, a Scottish saying declared that “leap year was never a good sheep year.” Lore also held that leap day babies were unruly and tough to raise. (Maybe we should ask J.Lo—whose twins were born on Feb. 29, 2008—if this adage proves true.)

Speaking of leap day babies, those born on Feb. 29 are called “leaplings” or “leapers.” Since their actual date of birth only comes around a quarter of the time, leaplings often celebrate non–leap year birthdays on Feb. 28 or March 1. Legal permissions like getting a driver license or drinking alcohol are granted on whichever day a particular region deems official. Most U.S. states test leaplings’ patience by making them wait until the 1st.

Four hundred years ago, women weren’t allowed to propose marriage to men… except on leap day. While the source of this switcheroo isn’t 100 percent clear, folklore traces the tradition to fifth-century Ireland, when St. Bridget supposedly complained to St. Patrick that gals were sick of waiting around for their procrastinating men to pop the question. Patrick consented to a leap day role reversal and, by some accounts, also declared that men who declined the proposal would be fined!

In the 1879 opera The Pirates of Penzance, the character Frederic is apprenticed to a band of pirates until his 21st birthday. When that day arrives, he abandons ship, falls in love and plans to marry. That is, until the pirates realize that Frederic was born on Feb. 29, meaning his contract does not officially end until the 21st time that date occurs—when he’ll be in his 80s. He’s forced to leave his fiancé and return to a soggy life at sea.
