A good way to know what you want is to write down the top three desires you have regarding your issues. In fact a number of spells will ask for this specifically either three or five desires that you would like to see manifest in your spell. This will help you to clarify what your intention is.

Let me give you a good example of pulling out your intention from your general desires regarding a spell.

The following is an example of a sample statement of intention:

Sample statement: “I want my ex-boyfriend John to return to me. I want to see him calling me and interested in spending time with me. I want to be in a closer relationship with him than we ever had previously. I want there to be no obstacles such as interlopers (other women) or friends of his that caused trouble in the past. I want our friendship and love to be strong and healthy. I want John to see me as I truly am and to desire me and no one else. I want John to remember all the good times we had and forget as much as he can about the problems we had. I want those problems to be eliminated. I want to see him eventually moving in with me again. I want him to be positive about our renewed love. I want to be positive as well. I want there to be no arguments about the kind of things we argued about previously. I want us to stay focused on being good partners to each other. I want his friends to be less of a factor in his life. I want to see him dedicated to a real commitment with me. I want to be the best that I can be with John; I want to be super confident and not clingy like I used to be. I want us to fall in love all over again and have this love eventually lead to marriage.”

Make sure that your statement uses the “I” format. This statement is for you so it can contain anything you would like to see happen, even if it seems selfish or even somewhat unrealistic. Just write down everything you want to see. All of it together is your intention. Once you have that statement of intention you will read through it and find the THREE most important declarations – the backbone of your statement that all other parts can fit into.

For instance in the statement above the three most important points are:

1.  I want my ex-boyfriend John to return to me.
2. I want our friendship and love to be strong and healthy.
3. I want us to fall in love all over again and have this love eventually lead to marriage.

Thus for this intention – the client is looking to have her ex return to her, for their love to be strong and healthy and to have their renewed relationship end in marriage.

That is her particular intention for this spell she is having cast. That way you know exactly what you are looking for and you will use that intention to focus your will.

I need to discuss a few of my clients who work hard to make magick part of their lives. I am mentioning this because for all my clients if you practice what these clients do – you will find that magick works for you in profound and unexpected ways. I know when you are feeling down it can be difficult to maintain a positive outlook but when it comes to spells and magick, I cannot stress this enough. My clients are in general very positive people and believe me if this is your disposition that helps but you can really make magick more effective for yourself by keeping this short-list in mind.

• Turn that frown upside-down! For some clients this is the last thing in the world they want to do. They are miserable and unhappy and that is just the way they are because that is how things are in their lives. Do not let this happen to you! If you feel yourself starting to go all morose and down-trodden just SMILE! It sounds nuts but it really works. Smile and go to a happy place in your mind. Replay a happy memory (remember in X-Men First Class when Professor X did this for a Young Magneto – helped him find a good memory of celebrating his birthday with his family as a child – pretend Professor X is doing the same for you!) and let that become your focus for a few second. Eventually after a little practice you will become more positive on a daily basis.
• Let it go. This is important about spell work on the clients end. There is no value at all in obsessing over the spell or results once the spell has been cast. You need to let it go and move on with how you live your life. The spell works without your attention to it. Once you’ve completed your part (if there is anything you need to do on your end) the advice is ALWAYS to walk away and let it go.
• Distract yourself so you do not obsess. One of my clients recently asked if it was ok for her to to date while waiting for a deep love commitment issue to pan out. This is a long-term relationship goal that needs repair and will obviously take time. I told her it is healthy and natural to feel the way she does and to absolutely enjoy herself. The great thing about spells is that they work for you energetically while you go about your life. Nothing stops – in fact it is best if you are distracted for the spell so you don’t obsess. An engaged mind is a receptive mind and this is very positive for magick.
• Be patient. Another client of mine is really great about being patient. We have worked on a variety of issues over the years and some were so complex that it took a longer than usual time to come to fruition. This client stuck with it though and believed in a positive outcome so when it finally manifested he was thrilled he’d put the time and patience into it. Spells do not often take longer to manifest than expected but it can happen and you must be open to accepting this.
• Keep the faith. You must BELIEVE. One of my clients uses magick on a monthly basis for very serious marital concerns in her life with her husband. I have been working with her for a decade now and she has used magick in incredible ways to make a better life for her, her family and in her relationship with her husband. She BELIEVES in magick and it fills up her life with promise and happiness. Your belief gives you the power to use your focused will and intention in accordance with will to CHANGE your life.

The last thing I will mention which is good advice for clients, for anyone really and something that I truly believe with all my heart, said of course by The Beatles:

I love all the Celtic symbols in this gorgeous bracelet. It’s wonderful to be a little bit Irish today, as in my heritage I am mostly French, Italian, German and English (with a wee bit of Scottish in the family lineage of Munro). I look every bit an English girl I have been told and definitely take after my grandmothers side of the family (the came on the first boat from England forbears). Since I have always been attracted to my Celtic bloodline I enjoy celebrating the day even if it by way of England and Scotland and not Ireland.

Had a great time with Mom, a beautiful day and then we got Southern BBQ for supper at Sonny’s and took it home. Usually I make Corned Beef & Cabbage but had a busy weekend so I’ve postponed it until later in the week.

First about $7 spells. No real witch would sell a spell so cheaply because of the time and energy it requires. This is just someone ripping you off. Remember spells that are too good to be true – ARE in fact if they are at too good to be true price like $7. Do you really think that a true witch who lives and works as a witch will take the time to cast a love spell for you for $7? Or that an entire coven of witches will cast a spell for you for 30 days selling  for only $100? If you do then honestly you deserve to have such con-artists take your money. They’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn they will sell you too!

This particular person claims to be a SIXTH generation Wiccan witch which is IMPOSSIBLE since Wicca was not even a religion in the US (or anywhere) until the 1950′s! How could you be a sixth generation Wiccan then? What a load of bunk! That’s not to say there were not witches, obviously, as there have always been witches but they did not call themselves Wiccans. And SIXTH generation? Come on! Not even good or believable cons, people!

This site also had a section for “haunted dolls”, this being one of the scams that used to run on eBay that eventually got all metaphysical services banned from that site. I never offered any of my services there so I am not sure how that worked. Clients have written to me and asked about such items as “haunted dolls”, “spellbound jewelry”, “charging boxes” etc.

Haunted Dolls: ghosts and thought forms do not haunt items. This is simply superstition. Inanimate objects can hold energy, this is true, but they would not be haunted in the sense that we consider hauntings. Often a thought-from (ghost) is usually connected to a person or a place. That’s not to say that your grandmother’s wedding ring that she wore until her death does not have residual energy from her wearing it for most of her life, that would not be uncommon, but items do not become haunted or infested with a spirit or thought-form. If you buy anything that someone claims is haunted you are just buying a piece of junk.

Spellbound Jewelry: jewelry  particularly of precious metal and semi-precious or precious stones can be charged for specific purposes by a legitimate witch or reiki/crystal healer. This would not be a long-term solution unless you keep charging the item somehow (like a talisman). The caveat here is that whomever is selling spelled jewelry or talismans must be the REAL DEAL. And for that you should know who they are, their real name, what they look like and be able to find them as a person on Facebook, on Twitter etc. Spellbound jewelry should be semi-precious stones and precious metal otherwise it will not hold a charge unless it has the appropriate symbols upon it (like metal talismans do). These items must also be re-charged regularly. They will not be as powerful as a spell – consider them to give an over-all, generalized effect, a boost perhaps to real spells. When looking at such supposed items beware that someone is not simply trying to clean out their jewelry box and sell things at a premium price because they have “spells” on them.

Charging Boxes: you do not need a special charging box for a talisman or spellbound item. Any container that you choose with work fine as long as that is all you use it for. I use several boxes to charge things on my altars. One is marble, the other is stone and one is wooden.

Spellbound Items (like potion bottles): a potion bottle would not be spellbound as much as its contents. Again this is not really a spell at all but something that has specific inherent properties of a sympathetic magickal nature. Think of Holy Water for instance, the container can be a vial, bottle or basin, but that does not contain the power – the water does. Be careful when someone is offering things like this and consider that it is the “potion” itself that has the value.

MAGICK CANNOT CHANGE YOUR GENDER!

There is no spell that can turn you from a boy into a girl or a girl into a boy.

Let’s explore this deeper:

1. Magick works with ENERGY not BIOLOGY. Science is the realm of biology which is why there is a medical field. Otherwise we would have no medicine or healing through science, we would just use spells and frankly witches would be far more respected in society and I would be a great deal more wealthy, so trust me if this was the case, there is nothing bad about it for me! But this is not the case – biology is science and the only way there exists in the WORLD for someone to change their gender is by undergoing  psychological therapy and eventually using science to alter their biology, to take hormones, to live as the opposite sex that you desire to become and finally to undergo sexual reassignment surgery.
2. Thankfully there exists a very open and caring medical community that helps people suffering from gender dysphoria to make the decisions they need to and to have the therapy and surgeries required to help them. This can be expensive as all elective medical procedures and psychiatry can be. Surgeries can range from $10K to $50K. Therapy that is not covered by insurance can run up to $225 an hour. Changing one’s gender takes time and money and surgery. There is no other way available on earth to do this.
3. If there existed a spell to change one’s gender (or eye color, hair color, body shape, height, size of breasts or penis etc.) why would there be scientific ways that included pain and discomfort for considerably more money than a spell would cost? What would be the point of going through such difficulties if you could simply come to a witch and she could turn you into whatever gender you desired, make you beautiful and change your physical appearance without the help of contact lenses, hair dye, hair stylists, diet, exercise and plastic surgery? Wouldn’t everyone in Hollywood just come to me instead of getting breast implants or lip injections? And for a bargain price of around $300? People please – use common sense!
4. I understand how tempting it can be to believe the Hollywood version of magick, that Samantha the witch can create something from nothing by twiddling her nose and that in Harry Potter there is such a thing as fighting with magick wands and a death spell that you just speak that can kill someone. That is fantasy and real magick is not about fantasy, it’s about the NATURAL WORLD and believe me there are no instant death spells in the NATURAL WORLD, otherwise madmen would be armed with wands and not guns.
5. Real magick works with your focused will and intention on energetic matters that CAN be altered by your state of mind and the energy surrounding them. Our minds and spirits are powerful (just read studies dealing with what can be accomplished through meditation, how we can alter how our bodies respond to physical conditions and how we can use out own bodies natural way of healing to help us to maintain and cure specific maladies) but we are not omnipotent. We don’t have the power of creating matter from thin air. The miracle of birth for instance takes two components to develop at all. Nature is powerful but nature is not a vacuum  It needs a seed and that seed needs to be nourished in order to grow.
6. This is why you cannot cast a love spell that will manifest if there is no love present. You cannot manipulate someone to love you who has no feelings for you. Love must be present in some form to build upon. There always must be something for magick to nourish and grow with focused will and intention. You don’t start to create life, a table, a work of art, a fabulous meal – nothing without the raw material and it works the same with energetic states too.
7. I know this is disappointing for many desperate people who just want to make the one they want to love them, LOVE THEM or to turn everything in their life around by changing their physical appearance or changing their gender or even making them immortal vampires, werewolves or mermaids.
8. If you visit a web site or witch/spellcaster who says they can CURE YOU, change your physical appearance, change your gender, eye color, height, body parts – anything that requires science and biology to actually accomplish in the natural world – don’t give them a second look. They are con-artists and their only business is to take your money and laugh all the way to the bank that you fell for it.

It always surprises me that more people to do not use magick for business and in school situations. I have had a number of clients request targeted business spells (spells for retail sales, real estate etc.) but I still would have thought more people might be interested at least enough to warrant a listing on the site but this has not happened. I’ve done my share of business talismans (also justice, love, health, beauty, prosperity, even ones for help with addiction recovery) and study talismans (for people in college  or for passing exams) but it still seems like people only come running to the witch if they are in dire need and it is a catastrophe of epic proportions.

It need not be however to use magick well in your life. I use it in all kinds of small ways on a daily basis.

A friend calls and tells me they are nervous because there has been some bad energy in their neighborhood, some mailbox bashings and break-ins so I cast a protection spell for them and send them a special sigil for them to put over their front door. This is a great way to use magick.

My beloved tells me that someone in his family is not well so I cast a healing candle spell and send positive healing energy to them.

Another friend tells me that her daughter has been having trouble in school so I cast a variation of Magnetic Attraction for her to draw the right kind of people to her.

I have a short list of resolutions though I do not really believe in them I like the aspect of clearing out the negativity that builds up over a year and getting ready with a clean slate for the new year.

There is such possibility in a new year, a hopefulness that the ills from the past year will be healed and good things will come in their fashion.

1. Work smarter not harder. I will be updating my sites very soon with new artwork, new spells, new formats and I am excited for this. It is my ten year anniversary as an online with and aside from being a writer and journalist (and producing my websites) this is the longest job I’ve ever had! Can you say best loved job too? It is!

2. Spend more time with my family. See my brother and sister-in-law more, spend more time with Mom and communicate with extended family more often like Aunt Diane, Auntie Marcia and my cousins.

3. Love more and love right. Not sure how to do the love right part, that will be a work in progress.

4. Concentrate on building healthy habits. Eating more organic, buying more local fruits and veg and cooking healthy food at home more often.

5. Read more. That’s why I have a kindle, a nook and an iPad! Oh and real books too!

6. Take a vacation. It’s been too long.

7. Organize my kitchen, my closet, my garage, my office. (I am almost laughing at this!)

What are your resolutions?

On New Year’s Day I cast my Chinese Good Fortune Spell – I have been doing this since my very first year online and this marks my tenth in 2013. This is a big year for me, ten years doing what I love online, casting spells for a living, who would have ever thought that a modern day witch could make her living doing what an old-timey witch who lived in a village did? But better I have clients all over the world and this truly is global witchcraft!

I am blessed to be able to do the work I do and help people the way I can. Every facet of witchcraft is part of my life and I think back upon a conversation I had with an old friend of mine about a dozen years ago when we were considering the ways our fortunes might go.

We both worked in media at the time and were somewhat burned out. I said something about wanting to go into candle-making or soap-crafting because I hungered to have a life that focused on something real and less virtual. I didn’t know it then but soon thereafter I discussed my idea of casting spells for a living and my friend suggested that I have an online presence. How grateful I am that I followed her advice.

It was slow at first, took about a year and then some for the site to take off and for me to reach people. I spent a fortune on advertising back then (this was all new on the internet – there was no market yet in online advertising) and worked so hard for my handful of clients. Those same clients in the early days are still clients today and I cannot believe the amazing journey we have taken together.

I have had incredible good fortune as a witch so I can testify to the validity of this particular spell since I include myself in its casting every year. I have reduced the price this year and hope you will all take part.

I am not normally a witch who casts for herself but lately I have had great success in doing so with several love spells and the Mystic Mars Spell I have cast for myself every month for ten years. I believe that abundance, prosperity and good fortune is something you need to really focus on and work at and this spell does just that for you.

I’m listening to White Christmas even though it’s never a white Christmas here in Central Florida. The truth is I haven’t had a white Christmas in so long I cannot truly recall what it was like! I don’t miss being cold, though in the brief winter here it can go down to freezing.

I miss the holidays of my youth but doesn’t everyone? We had such wonderful Christmases then with all the family together, visiting house to house, my Auntie Marcia making the most wonderful food, my Aunt Diane having the most beautiful decorated house, my Nanesto making the most lovely holidays especially considering that we always brought my father with us and he could destroy any holiday with a withering look. But she stood up to him – she was awesome!

Daddy wasn’t always a misery though, he’d lighten up once we got to Auntie Marcia’s and Uncle Richard’s, things were fun and festive with the Italians (which my father is) rather than the more buttoned up Yankee traditions of my mother’s people (she is half French and that’s on her father’s side, but the French has always been downplayed though my mother is tres tres French in her demeanor!).

Christmas with my cousins was always a great time. We got along famously, my cousins Tammy & Rick were very close to my brother Raymond and me throughout our entire childhoods and teen years. We lost touch once we were all adults and I am sad about that. I miss all my family tremendously, especially my Nanesto who has been gone a while now.

Nanesto (so called because Ernest Hemingway was her favorite author and his nickname was Ernesto, so I called her that combining “Nana” with his nickname) died in December and then five years ago this Christmas I lost my husband Sandy. The holidays are not quite what they were then.

It’s not just the physical loss of loved ones (though that plays into it) but I don’t see my father anymore (even though he has a winter home here in Florida) and have not in going on four years. My brother Raymond and his wife are estranged from Mom and me. Aunt Diane lives far away in Rhode Island and so does my father’s side of the family and we have not gotten together in many years. My mother remains close with my Aunts, speaking to them every few days and I am glad they maintain their connection.

I have found in the last five years since Sandy passed away that my closest friends are all over the world, many of them clients, sister and brother witches in my community of pagans, Buddhist brothers and sisters that I have known for over a dozen years and even new friends like my dear girlfriend Vanessa. I am so grateful to have a new family and new memories that we are building and sharing.

Still as I get older those memories of long ago seem more clear, and I find myself drifting longingly to the simpler joys of driving with my family to Rhode Island to be welcomed by both sides of my extended family in their unique and wonderful ways.

Those were my white Christmases.
